This book covers disasters since the dawn of time. I could only read this book a little at a time. It covers floods, ice age, plagues, famine, landslides, earthquakes and tsunamis, hurricanes, pestlence, snow, tornadoes, volcano eruptions and some man made disasters. It is a great book. It tells the stories of several planning projects that turn out to be dissaters. Hall clearly identifies the two main reasons for planning disasters: overestimation of demand and underestimation of cost. It provides both practical and theoretical background on those projects.
